Monsoon activity is set to intensify across West Bengal from Thursday, with light to moderate rainfall likely in most districts. The weather system has already brought cloudy skies and humid conditions over Kolkata and other parts of South Bengal, where intermittent rainfall has been ongoing in recent days.
An alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Purulia, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, and South 24 Parganas districts. Increased rainfall is also expected in North 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, East Bardhaman, and Hooghly. Rainfall activity is forecast to rise in intensity from Thursday and continue through the weekend.
A yellow alert has been declared for Saturday in at least eight districts—Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Purulia, and Paschim Bardhaman—warning of heavy rain. Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are also likely on Friday and Saturday across several parts of the state.
